And although the children are waiting for Christmas with longing, parents are not. It is true that these are non-working days, but are we really able to regenerate in two days after long preparations for the holidays? So maybe it is better just to let go of cleaning (or outsource it to someone), buy ready meals and spend time before Christmas and on holidays to play with your child, walks in the fresh air and your own rest.
Only will the holidays be the same without all these orders, Easter eggs, mazurkas? - probably not, they will just be different, but will still remain holidays. However, if we are traditionalists, we have to roll up our sleeves and make Christmas as it always was.
Before Christmas
Cleaning with children
With a multitude of matters and responsibilities related to preparing for Christmas, you need to remember about children. If they see that mom or dad are still busy they can try to demand attention through unruly behavior and crying. To avoid this problem, it is best to include children in Christmas preparations.
Kids love cleaning, so it won't be a problem to encourage them to help. Have your toddler take a cloth and wipe dust, wash doors, radiators, and his toys. Such common orders will strengthen family ties, for a toddler it's great fun, and for an older child the opportunity to talk frankly with a parent.
If a toddler takes part in the cleanup every year, it will probably get into the habit of helping his parents before Christmas.
Baking cakes with a child
Preparing for the holidays is not only cleaning, but also baking cakes and cooking dishes. Smaller children can sift flour, pour milk into a bowl, mix salads, older children can bake something themselves (e.g. muffins). The dish made together with parents will probably taste better and will be awaited on the holiday table. If a child gets dirty or does something wrong, it is better to turn a blind eye to this and enjoy the time spent together.
Preparation of Easter eggs
Painting eggs is probably the most pleasant moment before Christmas. Eggs should always be cooked, there is no risk even for the fun of painting raw eggs. Eggs can be painted in different ways, with dyes bought in the store or made at home.
- Eggs in blue can be obtained from red cabbage. Boil half a head of cabbage in a liter of water for half an hour. Strain, salt the resulting water (2 tablespoons) and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar, then put the eggs until they reach the desired color.
- Yellow color we get from turmeric. Pour 4 tablespoons of turmeric, 3 tablespoons of salt and 3 tablespoons of vinegar into 1.5 liters of boiling water, then dip the eggs for 1-2 hours.
- Onions, however, will stain brown egg. Pour onion leaves with a liter of water, cook for 15 minutes. Strain, add 3 tablespoons of salt and 3 tablespoons of vinegar to the resulting water. Rub the raw eggs with vinegar, put into the resulting onion mixture and cook for 20 minutes.
- Pink dye while we will receive from beets. To a liter of water we add a glass of grated (fine mesh) beets and cook, add 3 tablespoons of salt and 3 tablespoons of vinegar. We put the previously cooked eggs until the desired color is obtained.
