Great if his vacation falls on a period when the kindergarten is closed and after the end of the free time he can send a toddler to the institution he attends. It is worse when these dates are less favorable and the parent leaves when the kindergarten is open and works when it is closed. There is also another scenario - the inability to "choose" the summer off due to personnel shortages, after all, such situations also happen. Consequently, instead of enjoying the holiday period, it becomes in many Polish homes. problematic because it is not known how to organize childcare. Often parents have to face higher costs during holiday care and stress.
A child too small in a day camp and camp
Organizing preschool care for the summer is not easy. The child is usually too small to send to, for example semicolonies (for which it is difficult to enroll a child in many cities, because the number of applicants is so large). This offer is usually directed to six-year-olds and older children. Not to mention the classic colonies outside the place of residence, which for obvious reasons fall off.
There is also another option - vacation with grandma or aunt. However, here too there may be a problem. Grandmothers are often professionally active, and in a family there is sometimes no loved one who would be willing to look after the child. And then what?
Kindergartens on duty
There is of course another option - taking advantage of the kindergarten on duty offer, what for some children are not an obstacle. The kids are happy that they can meet the new facility, play with toys other than everyday, spend time at another playground, and finally meet new children.
However, it also happens that moving your child for a month to another place is a major source of stress. More sensitive children who do not like change can strongly protest, cry, refuse to stay in a foreign institution. They may appear disturbing behavior, a toddler who did not cause major problems sometimes happens to become aggressive, withdrawn. The response to the new situation can be very individual and the effects of problems with adaptation felt long after the holidays.
Of course, a lot depends on the teachers who can efficiently organize functioning in a facility with mixed groups, children from outside the kindergarten. However, adults also have trouble adapting to the new situation.
Ladies in kindergarten must control the group in which there are new children unknown to them, gain their trust and become an authority. Trouble can be such a basic issue as remembering all names…
Ignorance of the child, his needs and behavior unfortunately, it significantly hinders good care. It is also stressful for staff. Many ladies in kindergarten do not hide that the holiday period is especially difficult for them.
The problem of holidays is also due to the fact that often in the summer, the facilities do not operate in the "normal way". The offer for toddlers is significantly limited, there are no additional activities, groups are combined, children go several times a day to other rooms, they are still in a different environment. Ladies change quite often, which makes it difficult to conduct classes in the long term. Some action is not taken because it is not possible.
For all these reasons, short-term classes are undertaken, often very unfavorably rated by parents. During the year, many kindergartens enjoying a good reputation gain a patch of "storage" during the summer. Their offer is usually used by parents who have no other option.
'Better and worse' children
Holidays are also another period that shows the differences between children, unfortunately often misunderstood. Some people are tempted by unfair judgments, saying "about children who are good" who can spend their holidays outside of kindergarten, and those "inferior" who "are forced to participate in holiday activities". What's interesting is gradation - the worst are children who have to go to the kindergarten on duty, slightly better those who stay in their kindergarten for one month of functioning in the holiday, while the "winnings" are the children who have the opportunity to stay with their parents or grandparents at home or on the entire holiday trips.
This is how adults perceive the situation, stressed by the vision of sending a child to kindergarten on vacation. They often explain unnecessarily why they "have to send a toddler", they are ashamed that they are forced to take advantage of the holiday offer.
What about children? It can be different. Some are delighted with the opportunity to relax at home, others miss kindergarten very much during the holidays ... Every child has different needs ...
The kindergarten institutions also solve the situation differently. Due to lower attendance ... they also offer day camps for kindergarten children (e.g. from 5 years of age) who have a slightly richer program than that offered for preschoolers attending the facility ... and also a price that is 100 or 200% higher.
And you, what do you think about it? How to organize preschool holidays well? And are the preschools on duty the final solution?
